Kenny Ken started DJing in 1989. He got into playing music by going to the early warehouse parties. It was while going to these all-night raves and then having to go straight to work that he decided to try being a DJ. He started playing regularly on pirate radio station, Centerforce before moving to Dance FM. One night at a Genesis rave, the DJ hadn’t turned up and Kenny begged for his shot. He played in front of a massive crowd of hardcore ravers and knew it was time to leave his job and start DJing full time. He soon picked up regular work at Labyrinth and began really honing his craft before a chance meeting at a Sunday morning rave led to a set at Buzbys and meant playing amongst the premier league of DJs. He was signed to Dynamix DJ agency in ’92 and began playing all over the world. Originally playing house and techno it was during this time that he started playing at the famous Roast parties and this was when jungle started to take hold. In fact Kenny Ken was the first jungle DJ to bring the music to Toronto, Canada, before winning the Jungle Soundclash in ’94. Notable achievements include playing the legendary AWOL parties, hosting shows for Radio 1, joining Kiss FM and launching his own label, Mix and Blen’ Recordings. Kenny Ken firmly states that all his achievements are down to jungle / drum and bass. Now, nearly 40 years later he’s still travelling across the world, playing out every week, making good music and focusing on the genre he loves.
